Crossing the Straits

Crossing the Straits is an annual juried art exhibit open to all artists living or working in Michigan. The 2019 competition offers over $600 in cash prizes, plus opportunities for solo exhibits and artist residencies on Mackinac Island. On even years, Crossing the Straits works in partnership with ArtPrize in Grand Rapids to showcase artwork from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. On odd years, Crossing the Straits is open to all artists living or working in both the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan. Crossing the Straits 2019 will take place on Mackinac Island at the Mackinac Arts Council Center for the Arts as well as public locations across the island including Grand Hotel, Mackinac State Historic Parks, The Pink Pony, and many others. Preference will be given to artwork that can be displayed outdoors. Photographers espeically are encouraged to consider printing on outdoor materials for consideration of outdoor presentation
