Encore! With Djangophonique

We aren't ready to say goodbye to what has been an amazing season for arts and culture on Mackinac Island. So we are scheduling an extra, very special event to finish out our Monday recital series and celebrate our local artists. We are thrilled to welcome Djangophonique to the stage, plus eleven local Mackinac Island fine artists in the gallery.

Djangophonique is a musical project born out of reverence for the Parisian Jazz Manouche style that was made popular by the legendary Sinti guitarist Django Reinhardt and his Quintette du Hot Club de France. While remaining steeped in the rich and virtuosic tradition, the group brings this music into the present with stunning improv, spontaneity and musical interaction. Hot swing, lush ballads, musette waltzes, jazz standards, boleros, and moody minor pieces are all fused together with theatrical flair and musical humor.

The Mackinac Showcase Exhibit features eleven local Mackinac Island artists in a range of media including birchbark, oil paintings, collage, and ceramics. The gallery will be open to guests and artists present to share their process, inspiration, and experience living and working on Mackinac Island.
